Wolf Blitzer wears blinkers

Of course, it's a truism to say that everyone sees things through the prism of their own concerns. How can we not? But certainly one of the tasks of a journalist—probably the primary task—is to examine, understand, and present the perspective of others. So since Wolf Blitzer is at least nominally a journalist, his interview this weekend with the Dalai Lama must go into the concerns of the Dalai Lama, ask him for his perspective on recent events in Tibet, ask how the United States should help in discussions with the PRC to advance the cause of human rights in Tibet. It must, right? Right?
Basically Blitzer spends the entire interview trying to get the Dalai Lama to talk about how he's superpissed and slighted that Obama didn't meet with him. Seriously, watch it. Blitzer's sole concern is about how other Presidents have met with the Dalai Lama, how the Dalai Lama's office had asked for a meeting but the President declined, and how disappointed and offended the Dalai Lama must be. That's really all there is to the interview.
It's quite amazing to get a meeting with a Nobel Laureate, one of the most recognized and respected people in the world and all Blitzer can do is view this as some kind of rejection on the level of being turned down for a high school school dance. It's quite pathetic.
